THE CHALLENGE
The goal is to craft a design for the beverage "Frespa" that exudes freshness and vibrancy, capturing the essence of a modern agua fresca. The aim is to develop a contemporary appearance for the bottled beverage, ensuring it stands out prominently among its competitors on the market.
CONCEPT
The "Spike Agua Fresca" concept revolves around combining traditional Mexican agua fresca with a modern twist with a kick of alcohol, typically in the form of spirits like tequila or mezcal. Agua fresca, which translates to "fresh water" in Spanish, is a refreshing beverage made from fruits, flowers, or seeds mixed with water and sweetened with sugar. It's a popular drink enjoyed for its thirst-quenching properties and variety of flavors.
Research & Discovery
Agua Fresca holds a special place in my heart, evoking nostalgic memories of Sunday BBQs with family and leisurely sips by the pool on hot summer afternoons. Drawing inspiration from these cherished moments, I sought to capture the vibrant essence of my heritage. Whether it's the vivid hues and intricate patterns of my grandmother's tablecloth or the lively array of fruits and drinks from my grandfather's paleta cart, each memory is infused with cultural richness. My deep admiration for our artistic heritage is what was the driving force behind the creative process for “Frespa”.
Ideation
During my sketching process, I aimed to incorporate diverse design elements into each option, exploring various creative avenues.
OPTION 1
In option 1, I sought to emulate the sensation of freshly squeezed juice from a fruit. I manipulated the text to convey a sense of freshness and vitality, evoking the tactile experience of juicing.
OPTION 2
Option 2 features an intricate floral design inspired by traditional Mexican embroidery. The richness of the patterns adds depth and cultural resonance to the visual composition.
OPTION 3
For option 3, I opted for a more minimalist approach, using a typeface with a Western aesthetic. Accompanied by a simplified illustration of a fruit wedge, this design exudes a sense of rustic charm and simplicity.
Digital Drafts
Upon selecting a direction, I drew inspiration from various elements across the design options mentioned earlier. I retained the manipulated text to convey the essence of juicy freshness. Additionally, I crafted a pattern influenced by Mexican textiles, intertwining it with fruit wedges and slices to infuse the design with cultural vibrancy and flavor.

Reflecting on the process for Frespa, I'm struck by the vibrant and refreshing essence that this project aimed to capture. From the get go, I was inspired by the cultural significance and sensory experience associated with this beloved beverage.
In conceptualizing the graphic elements, I aimed to evoke a sense of freshness and vitality that mirrors the essence of the beverage itself. Bold, energetic colors were paired with dynamic shapes and patterns to create a visually stimulating composition. This involved incorporating motifs inspired by Mexican art, such as intricate floral patterns and vibrant geometric designs.
In the end, I'm proud of the graphic design created for the agua fresca, as it not only captures the essence of the beverage but also celebrates the cultural heritage and sensory delight that it embodies. It serves as a visual invitation to indulge in the refreshing experience of agua fresca, enticing viewers to quench their thirst and savor the flavors of tradition.
